    @rasterweb When I retired I felt the wonderful lightness of getting rid of high-end computers. Used to have a bunch of latest this & that (high point was over a dozen servers in the house, long story). Now? One 12-year-old iMac and a Minisforum mini PC, both running Mint. Oh, and a jailbroken Fire tablet for the rare occasion I want to compute away from my desk.

    @mitchw Looks like 1968 single issues of Analog are going for $5-$10 each on ebay, so carting them around may pay off for you!

    @manton It’s not really all that good of an analogy, but I worry about some sort of AI analog to Gresham’s Law (“bad money drives good money out of circulation”). I suspect if it turns out to be much cheaper to build lousy AI than good AI, the flood of bad AI will be unstoppable.

    @rasterweb I had Mint running on an Air of that vintage a while ago…peppy, but I never did get the sound working. Might just have been my limited attention span though.
